18 Movies That Surprisingly Bombed at The Box Office in 2017

They could have been the year’s blockbusters.

Valerian and the City of A Thousand Stars

Valerian still appears on this list despite recouping its budget, since it fared rather poorly against expectations of box office success. $225 million in worldwide box office sales against a $117 million budget may look good for another film, but not this Cara Delevigne starrer. Just like Suicide Squad before it, Valerian and the City of A Thousand Stars fell way below expectations at both the box office and with critics.

2017’s Geostorm starring Gerald Butler was supposed to be as hit the same way 2009’s The Impossible was, but that hasn’t happened. The disaster film has only scored $150 million against a $120 million budget, which is way below what critics and the studio must have expected.
